On a weekly basis, I approach the stop light into my development and I see him. The same man, navigating the sidewalks with his white cane and his trusty dog, a Chihuahua, at his side. This doesn't seem like an extraordinary task to most people, but this man is blind, which has turned a daily activity into a vulnerable experience. I always watch with wonder, thinking "How does he do it?" Not only is he walking down the sidewalks and using the crosswalks of a busy main road, but he is doing it with confidence. I cannot speak to the life of this man, how he feels on a daily basis, or the struggles that he is met with, but I can speak to how he appears to me, and that is a strong and determined person.
The Center for the Visually Impaired
The Center for the Visually Impaired has a goal to enhance the lives and opportunities of their clients through job training and employment, independent living, technology training and children's services as well as a multitude of community services. They work tirelessly to ensure that blind and visually impaired individuals lead successful lives in their workplace, at home and in their communities.
Let's ban together to help contribute towards making a difference in the lives of blind and visually impaired people in our community. Just a small donation will go a long way in helping me meet my goal for the Center for the Visually Impaired, Inc.
